Road Trip: Epic Fall Adventures in the West

October 22, 2019
Autumn Leaves Sunset Road Trip

Every day is an adventure at OakwoodLife. Poised along the Wasatch Range and the Rocky Mountains, we are lucky to experience the change of seasons to the fullest. However, if you are looking to leaf-peep beyond our communities, consider an autumn-inspired adventure.

Hike Impressive Peaks

We all know that Yellowstone National Park is a treasure, but at the base of the beloved park is the Grand Tetons. If you relish climbing impressive peaks and gazing down into awe-inspiring valleys, this park is the perfect fall destination. Before leaving, download the National Park Service app for updated trail info and wildlife notes — and if you are planning on camping overnight, read up on our tips for an extended adventure.

Epic Scenic Drive

The Wasatch Range is home to unbelievably gorgeous trees — like aspens and maples — that are producing phenomenal colors along the purple mountains. Just a short drive from SpringHouse Village in Salt Lake City is Big Cotton Canyon, a stunning 15-mile drive that curves around beautiful rock formations and backcountry ski areas.

Arts and Culture

One of the best ways to expand your mind and savor new experiences is by exploring a town rich in arts and culture. Steamboat Springs is only a four-hour drive from Fairway Villas in Denver, but feels like a world away — tucked into the Rocky Mountains, this small town is huge on fall charm. After a long day of appreciating art on Main Street, enjoy a dip in the local hot springs.

Peace and Solitude

For a longer adventure, consider traveling to Sedona, Arizona for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. You may think that Arizona only has cacti, but this mountain town is actually filled to the brim with golden and red hues. In addition to a booming art scene, this is a fabulous destination for birders and hikers.

Hopefully this list will inspire an unforgettable autumn vacation in some of the top destinations our beautiful region has to offer.
