No matter if you’re the new kid on the block or you’re the one watching your neighbors unload a moving truck, it can be intimidating to start new and meaningful connections. Thankfully, we all have one thing in common: We love living in OakwoodLife communities! Here are our top tips for forging those all-important relationships with your neighbors.
Ask to Go for a Walk
This is a suggestion for the bold-hearted. Asking your neighbor to join you on a walk may feel a bit awkward at first, but it’s a win-win situation. You don’t have to clean your living room for visiting guests, and you get to enjoy exercising outside in the beautiful green spaces of our community. Whether you’re strolling leisurely or working up a sweat, you can get to know someone with the added bonus of getting your steps in for the day. You could even bring your dog—or make it a dog playdate with a paired walk! To open the conversation with new neighbors or those you may not know well, ask easy icebreakers about why they moved to the neighborhood or what they love most about their home.
Start a Book Club
If your community doesn’t already have a book club, start one! Creating a book club is a wonderful way to gather, share your thoughts on a book, sip drinks—alcoholic or not—and get to know one another. Take turns choosing books, hosting, and preparing themed snacks and decor. Penguin Random House recommends setting up a pre-book book club meeting to discuss the first book, vote on favorites, and establish what types of books you’d like to focus on—like bestsellers, memoirs, romance, or the classics.
Join New Activities at SpringHouse Village
At SpringHouse Village, take advantage of the local activities and gatherings organized by our dedicated lifestyle director at our private amenity building, The Spring House. Whether you join your neighbors for fitness classes, billiards, or even time in the golf simulator, you’ll find plenty of fun to enjoy together. Join SpringHouse Village’s lifestyle director in meeting your neighbors through new activities and clubs, from excursions to learning to cook a gourmet meal.
Meet Others at Local Rec Center Classes
With options like ceramics classes and 55-and-better programs, finding like-minded locals is easy at your local rec center. For Fairway Villas, the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center is the closest option, and the South Jordan Community Center is nearest to the SpringHouse Village community.
Don’t be shy! Get to know your neighbors. After all, if you both love OakwoodLife communities you’re bound to have even more in common. Join in on activities, start your own clubs, and don’t be afraid to spark up conversation!
