2021 Homebuying Journey

Have you recently been looking for a new home?

Buying a new home is never exactly easy, and right now you might be running into some struggles finding exactly the house you want in the location you want. It seems like there are so many more buyers than sellers that finding a house isn’t happening as quickly as you’d hoped it would.

Something you might want to consider is purchasing a home in a master-planned community. Master-planned communities are designed to give you a truly great community of people and aesthetics all in a convenient location. If you’re struggling to find a home, maybe a new master-planned community is exactly what you need to finally settle into a home. Homebuying in a master-planned community can be a little different than other home-buying experiences, so let’s take a look at Oakwood Homes’ buying process.

Oakwood Homes’ Homebuying Process

The homebuying process can have a lot of steps, but we all want to find ways to make the process as simple as possible. To give you an idea of what this process can look like with Oakwood Homes, let’s go over some of the major steps of the buying process.

Find Your Home and Community

The buying process starts when you know that you want to try looking for a home in a master-planned community. First, look for the communities in and near the area you want to live in. Look at all the important factors, like distance from family or the commute to work. Check for house and homesite availability as well. Narrow down your options to your ideal community.

Once you know which community you want to live in, take a look at the floorplans of the homes in that community. It might be a good idea to have other communities in mind just in case the floorplans in a particular community aren’t a good fit for you. However, most communities have a variety of plans so you should be able to find one that will work well for you.

As you’re looking into communities and homes, it’s a good idea to reach out to Oakwood Homes to chat about your interest and tour the community. Doing so will give you a much better idea of what your new home and community will be like and will give you the chance to ask about any concerns you may have. You might also be able to see if there are any quick move-in homes available as well.

Lending and Purchase

Once you’ve chosen your community, homesite, and home, you need to figure out your lending options. It’s often a good idea to look into your lending options and capabilities before deciding on a home. And if you can get pre-qualified, that will make purchasing your home easier. When you have your lending worked out, you can then sign the purchase agreement.

If you’ve chosen to purchase a quick move-in home, then your homebuying process will only need to go this far before closing and taking ownership. It’s certainly a simpler way to settle into a master-planned community, but it does limit your opportunity to personalize your new home to be exactly what you want it to be.

Personalize and Design

After lending is all worked out, you’ll meet with your team to personalize the design of your floorplan. Each floorplan has various customizations you can make, so each home in your community will have its own unique touch. It may take a few meetings to work through all the design adjustments you’d like to make to your new home, but it will all be worth it once the house is built.
The Oakwood Homes team is dedicated to making sure that you love your new home, so we do our best to make sure that your home becomes exactly what you need it to be. And with our energy-efficient and luxury features, you’re sure to be pleased with the final results.

Build Your Home

When you finalize your home design, you then get to meet with the construction team and begin the building process. Building the house typically takes several months. Throughout those months, you’ll be able to walk through your home periodically to check in on the progress being made and make sure that it is coming together the way you want it to.

Walk-through and Close

When the house is completed, it’s time to do the final walk-through. This is the time to check for anything that might still need a bit of fixing or tweaking before you move in. After you close on a house the builder may no longer be responsible for making those fixes. However, that usually depends on the builder. Make sure that the house is in good condition and that everything is as it should be before going into closing.

Finally, you’ll be able to close entirely on your brand new home. You’ll receive the keys and be free to move in as soon as you can. While this process is a bit long (mostly because of the building) you’ll find that having a new, clean home in a fresh community has a lot of advantages. You’ll love the experience and the results.

2021 Homebuying

Now, purchasing a home in 2021 may be a bit different than purchasing at other times. Not only did the pandemic throw a wrench into some things, but we’re also in a housing bubble. That’s actually why you might have been struggling to find a new home. No one is quite sure what will come next in the housing market, but rest assured that Oakwood Homes is doing all we can to be ready for the near future.

However, you may find that, as your home is built, there are a few added slowdowns. Certain resources are harder to get now than they were a year or two ago, so it may require a little more time than usual to complete your home.

Despite any possible challenges, Oakwood Homes will make sure your home is finished beautifully. It is still a good time to look into master-planned communities, and the homebuying process will all be worth it when you can finally step into your new home. If you’re ready to start the homebuying process today, check out our communities and contact us as soon as possible. We’re ready to help you create the home you’re looking for.
